Te-Wen Lo, Ph.D.
Cynthia Becker
I am a junior pursuing a dual degree in Biology (B.A.) and Music (B.M). I play the bassoon and entered college as a bassoon major. Freshman year I added my biology major because I find biology very interesting. I love learning about the world around me. This is my second semester in Te-Wen's lab, where I am currently working on an RNAi screen for suppressors of lin-35, a gene related to a tumor suppressor gene in humans called Rb. As an identical twin I am interested in genetics because I have always been intrigued by the idea of how my sister and I can be "identical" genetically, but still look slightly different. As a child, I was fascinated by the ocean and I plan on pursuing a doctoral degree after college in marine science, hopefully with a genetics focus.

I am currently a senior pursuing both a B.S in Biochemistry and a B.A in Mathematics. I have been working in the Lo lab for seven semesters, and am currently studying regulatory elements involved in C. elegans germline development. I hope to one day continue with my education and achieve a PhD in the field of Biochemistry/ Synthetic Biology. I would ideally like to work in environmental conservation, developing and enhancing processes found in nature to help clean up the environment.
I grew up in the Syracuse area of New York, in a small town called Bridgeport New York. While there, I worked as a camp counselor for underprivileged children in Madison County at Camp Lookout. I was also an Irish Dance instructor for Elementary School children for seven years and have been dancing for 14 years.

I am currently a junior at Ithaca College. I am pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry. This is my second semester in the Lo Lab. I am interested in genetics because I am always trying to understand how things work and now I get a chance to understand the code that makes up all living life.
I am from Verona, New York. Aside from research I am also a member of the Baseball team at Ithaca College. Once I graduate I plan on pursuing graduate school and eventually move into the field of drug therapy research to help treat neurodegenerative diseases.

I am currently a junior at IC, and this is my 5th semester in Te-Wen Lo's lab. I am interested in genetics because I think that the key to understanding biology is understanding the code that makes up all living things, and how it can be changed or manipulated to yield different results. In the future, I'm hoping to go to graduate school for Molecular Biology or Biomedical Sciences.

J.C. AlexanderI am currently a senior at Ithaca college pursuing a B.S. degree in Biology. This is my fifth semester in Te-Wen Lo's research lab and I am studying the role of her-1 in C. briggsae and the evolution of sex determination. I have always been interested in animals and scientific research since I was a child. After I graduate, I plan to go to veterinarian school to get a DVM/Ph.D. in veterinary medicine and study animal behavior.

Jihye LeeI am currently a senior and pursuing a B.S. in biology at IC. This is my first semester in Lo Lab and I am excited to be working with genetics because I've always been interested in microbiology and how things work on a small scale. I am studying the role of xol-1 in C. briggsae and the evolution of sex determination.
I am from a small suburban city Lansdale and grew up outside of Philadelphia. I love working with kids and I've worked for the past 4 years as a preschool/elementary teacher for my local church's summer school. I hope to bring together my love of science and working with children. |
Eric Eichelberger
I am currently a senior at Ithaca College. I am pursuing a B.S. in biochemistry. This is my fourth semester in Te-Wen Lo's research lab. I am very interested in research of genetic diseases and disorders. I have always been interested of knowing how things work on a very fundamental level.
I am from Rochester, New York. My main hobby outside of the biology is music. I have played piano for over 14 years, and have always loved having music in my life. I have been a camp counselor at a summer camp for the past few years, as well as a lifeguard. I hope to continue research in Lo lab, and eventually move into the fields of genetic diseases and disorders. |
Nara NorgilI am a Junior perusing a B.S. degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Anthropology. I just completed my first summer in the Lo Lab, studying the evolution of sex determination and the role of PUF domain proteins in C. elegans germline development. I have always been interested in science, and I’m currently torn between being a forensics scientist or a dermatologist for my career.
I’m from an average size town a little north of Boston, Massachusetts and moving to New York has always been my dream. Coming to Ithaca College, I had been an athlete since I was 3-years-old and I continued being a student-athlete through my sophomore year. However, being a scientist takes up a lot of time and I realized my passion for science when I left behind my passion for being a student-athlete. |
Emily SiniscalcoI am a junior at Ithaca pursuing a B.S. in Biology. This is my second semester in the Lo Lab, and I am studying proteins involved in stem cell differentiation in C. elegans. After graduating IC, I plan to continue my career as a researcher in microbiology because of my fascination with infectious diseases and genetics.
I am from central New Jersey, and while in high school, I participated in many science-related programs to experience research before college. I love doing research in the Lo Lab and using amazing tools like CRISPR and RNAi to learn more about genetic processes. |
Joshua LamI am a current sophomore pursuing a B.S. in Biology. I am in my second semester at Professor Te-Wen Lo's research lab. My major interest is in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine in the future. I have always been interested in medicine, but in the past two years have found that I am interested in two main fields: wildlife medicine and CDC veterinary epidemiology.
I am from a small town south of Boston; I grew up in a city right outside of Boston. I also have a strong interest in learning foreign languages and have worked as a teacher's assistant with elementary school age students learning Mandarin. |

I am currently a sophomore at Ithaca college pursuing a B.S. degree in Biochemistry. This is my first semester in Te-Wen Lo's research lab.
I am from Spencerport NY, a suburb outside of Rochester. While at home I work as a lifeguard and an EMT on a volunteer ambulance service.
After graduation from Ithaca I plan on attending graduate school in order to become a physician's assistant.

Fardin AhmedI am currently a sophomore pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry at Ithaca College. This is my first semester in Te-Wen Lo's research lab. I have always been interested in molecular biology and through working in Te-Wen's lab I wish to refine this particular passion of mine.
I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh, a small tropical country located in South East Asia. Besides research, I enjoy debating, playing ping-pong, reading books and watching movies. After graduating from Ithaca, I am hoping to do a PhD in biology in order to pursue a career as a research scientist for a biotech company. I hope to use my passion for biology to conduct research on the genetic traits and transmission mechanisms of certain diseases to better inform more affordable diagnosis and treatment methods, particularly in a developing nation such as Bangladesh. |
